What is the PIN Number?

Your PIN - Access that puts YOU in the Driver's Seat

Your Personal Identification Number (PIN) serves as your identifier to let you access personal information in various U.S. Department of Education systems. It’s like the PIN that you get from your bank that enables you to access your bank account.

Your PIN provides you with access to tools and capabilities that give you more control of your federal education loan account(s).

Use your PIN throughout the life cycle of your Direct Consolidation Loan

Your PIN allows you to access various Department of Education web sites which can help you in the consolidation process:

  • National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) web site - NSLDS provides you with a complete history of the federal financial aid you have received. Use NSLDS to find the information on your loans needed to complete your consolidation application.

  • Direct Loan Servicing web site - Here, your PIN allows you to track or update information about your Direct Consolidation Loan after it has been processed, including:
    • Account balance information
    • Loan status
    • Repayment dates

Where can you get additional information or help regarding your PIN?

For additional information not really necessary, you can visit the official PIN web site or access the PIN customer service web page.
